“They also shot foreign torture experts sent to train the generals’ death squads. Though she says she never used weapons, she was eventually rounded up and tortured by the secret police in Brazil’s equivalent to Abu Ghraib, the Tiradentes prison in Sao Paulo. She was given a 25-month sentence for “subversion” and freed after three years. Today she openly confesses to having “wanted to change the world”.”

“The world’s most powerful woman will start coming into her own next weekend. Stocky and forceful at 63, this former leader of the resistance to a Western-backed military dictatorship (which tortured her) is preparing to take her place as President of Brazil.”

I’m willing to bet the CIA is even now plotting (a) a coup, (b) an assassination, or (c) both.

As much as I agree with Realist’s TOTAL FUCKING BUMMER prognosis, I still have to say, Terrible:

    RIGHT. THE. FUCK. ON.!!!!!!

Here’s hoping that she’s slicker than the CIA and can build a consensus like Hugo Chavez, with the support of and for all of the indigenous people who’ve been gang-raped since the first conquistador pissed on “New World” soil. That’s who the BUSH (SR. *AND* JR.)-SUPPORTED DICTATORS & MILITARY JUNTAS alllll the fuck up & down CENTRAL America have done to the few remaining Maya, Inca, and other, smaller tribes throughout the region. A genocide even more ludicrous and horrific than Rwanda, and WHO IS DOING ***ANYTHING*** TO FUCKING STOP IT?!?!?!?

Not the U.S., I can guarandamnedtee THAT.

I’m think the little nazi fuckwads of the cia would love to go after her. But I’m betting they can’t. :-) They’re too fucked in Af=Pak, etc right now and I’m pretty sure she’s got the intelligence network and the backing of the people to such an extent they would be hard pressed to do serious damage to her anyway. I found the peoples comments about Lula in the article informative.
