but I have something serious to say and do not want to put it here for a lot of reasons. So just click. And it is not about having a relationship with a midget. It IS seriously meant. Really.

Thank you RenB. (BTW I LOVE Ernestine). I send e-mails, money, make phone calls, and to what effect? I don’t know what else to do.

Oh hey, I just got this e-mail from Chris Dodd, so maybe it’s not so bleak:
    Chris Dodd for President: Email

    Dear LPF,

Majority Leader Harry Reid just pulled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act from the floor of the Senate, only moments ago.

    What does this mean?

Well, first, it will come back up again in January after the recess. We’ll continue the fight against ANY bill that includes retroactive immunity.

As Chris Dodd just said on the floor, “If it’s not [stripped], I’ll be back here engaging in this very same effort.”

Second, this is what leadership that delivers results look like. It’s been a while, but you saw it on display all day on the floor of the Senate.

A leader who stands on principle. And a leader who can turn that principle into results.

Finally, this is evidence of what grassroots advocacy along with real leadership can accomplish.

We’ll keep up the fight in the White House, and I’m sure you’ll be there right by Chris Dodd’s side the entire way.

We’ll have updates all night at if you want to drop by and share your thoughts or send a message to Senator Dodd.

    They can hear us now,

    Tim Tagaris
Proud to work for Chris Dodd for President

P.S. I am sure Senator Dodd will want to thank you as well, so keep an eye out in your email box tomorrow.

Thanks, that sounds a bit less bleak, but I guess doing that one between one and three am–that is when things do look bleakest.

  3. 3. Terrible Said:

Yeah not as bleak perhaps. But I won’t be satisfied until a lot of criminals connected to this administration are prosecuted and convicted.

  4. 4. RenB Said:

I’m with you on that comment, Terrible.

In fact I’d like to see the next administration finally recognise the World Court, which will never happen, and hold war crime trials in den Haag. Not because I feel revengeful, but because I think it would only be the right thing to do. And the defendants wouldn’t be only from the US…

And because those people perverted everything for values and what I was taught and treasured and grew up with. Oh yes, I get angry.

Y’know,it has never been exactly easy being a good ambassador for the country I grew up in over the past thirty years, but at least I could convince people that not all Americans are dumb rubes who only care for money and have no idea of culture.

Sometimes it was even very very difficult, and mostly I could be successful in changing their minds or perceptions, and that was a good thing.

But the past couple of years? It is a NIGHTMARE. I end up flinching when they notice my accent—slight to middling accent, depending on how tired I am–and ask me where I come from originally, and lately, it is always with an added, hopeful, ‘The UK?’ And I always flush with embarassment.

But I never lie. And think of all the good people I know there. And do NOT hang my head, but get very angry inside.

When public discussion there turns to torture, and debates take place on when it is something JUSTIFIABLE,I feel shame, and absolutely horrified that it is even possible, hey. That is NOT what I was taught what we were… NO. That is not what I know them to be. We got hi-jacked, kidnapped, and made to be AFRAID. By a clown car full of greedy fools who all look like the one in Stephen King’s ‘It’

    ‘Wha’ HAPPENED?’ I whine internally…

And THAT is why I have been so reticent to even approach certain topics, or encourage anyone there with my ideas of what might be feasable. Out of love for what I grew up with, and for values that were good.

And I didn’t want to be seen as some know-it-all asshole criticising from the bleachers without ‘even knowing the rules of the game.’ I certainly do. Growing up in NH can teach them to you all right, and they are seldom fair….

Have always felt doubly enriched, being able to pick and choose the best things from two cultures and internalising them. And now the ones from the first third of my life are like a handful of sand on a beautiful beach, running through my fingers, so to speak, it makes me sad.

Atrios had a few nasty things to say today about people who easily despair when things seem about to go bad, and suggested they get another hobby instead of whine on blogs. I thought that was uncharitable, and unfair.

After seven years of watching people you hope will support the values you elected them for become corporate whores and cave in against what you want, time after time, after time… You can sometimes lose a little hope. He can live from his blog and his job.
That’s called losing perspective, hey. Elite A-blogger. We others slog along and try to do what we can and feel disempowered.

Sorry, Terrible, this is a VERY long-winded reply. Should have been a post.

But I want you, and whoever else stumbles across it to know exactly where I am coming from, having ‘come out’ so to speak.

(Yet again. HOW many minorities do I belong to????? Ever feel that way? Shee-it, hey.)

If I speak out on politics here, and it may not be often, it is because I CARE deeply, feel betrayed for all that I held dear, not because I’m some concern troll.

And I feel PROUDand envious when I see what you all do as a community, and to know some of you.
And I so hope that what has been happening swells immensely and becomes a movement that sweeps all the dirt and corruption away. (Yeah, I know…)

I wish we had anything like that here. I know of some Stygian stalls I’D like to have cleaned out, but we don’t have any mini-Herculeses yet, Preciousesses, the nawsty little thieves, AND WHAT’S it got in it’s Pocketses???!!!

Here, it is still ‘the party decides who the candidates are, you get no say.’ Tja. Other sorts of networks.

So what you do is a glimmer on the horizon.

And gives hope, because meanwhile, this SHIT is world-wide, far as I can see… Work on…. Never give up hope.

But don’t ask me to sign any petitions unless they are international ones. Because the others? I do not think that would be legal as a no-longer citizen, ok?
