I LOVE the Supremes!
James Dobson’s (hiss) Alliance Defense Fund just notified me that the California Supreme Court struck down Proposition 22 in a 4 to 3 ruling, ignoring “the will of the people.”
The will of the people? Give me a break. Carpetbaggers from out of town set up shop in front of Home Depots and Wal*MARTS and collect signatures for propositions from people who feel special when a stranger asks them their opinion.
I hate the proposition process in California and almost always vote no on every proposition. Why are we paying legislators if they’re too terrified to lead and legislate? Instead they stick their heads in the sand and matters are put to the mob.
Our country is not a true democracy. It’s a republic. Cooler, wiser heads are supposed to rule. It’s not mob rule. It’s not majority rule. What Christians forget is that morality is not arrived at by consensus – not even in their religion. But in the case of their pet prejudices: abortion, homosexuality, immigration, drugs, pornography, what-have-you, the fearful, angry mob is their best friend. You mustn’t betray the “will of the people.”
So what do these religiously correct, carpetbagging elites from Scottsdale, Arizona suggest?
Thankfully, there is action you can take. Our allies in the area of family policy have successfully gathered the necessary signatures to place a state constitutional amendment on the ballot in November.
What the ADF is really afraid of is people traveling to California to marry, and then expecting their home states to honor their marriages. It’s the same thing that happened with Loving versus Virginia. The Lovings traveled to Maryland, where a black woman and a white man could be legally married. Upon their return to Virginia they were arrested. (See story a few posts down.)
The handwriting is on the wall. Americans are sick and tired of being divided over private matters. We have real problems and need to come together with each other to fix them. Coming together will be its own rewards, and there’s no telling how much we will be able to accomplish when we do.
Shame on you, James Dobson, and the ADF. Go back to Arizona. You’re not welcome here.
